Fairmont Riverside Retreat

One of the biggest compliments you can receive as a designer is from a happy client. When my recent clients, Brent and Diane Schlenker, told me how happy their were with the cabinetry and the process, I was honored. Not only am I thrilled to reveal this new cabinetry project with you today as one of the Best Residential Projects in British Columbia by the Architectural Woodworking Manufacturers Association of Canada., but I'm also excited to walk you through the process of how we arrived at this finished kitchen.

We are so impressed with how easy and simple Gipman Kitchens & Cabinetry made the whole process. From start to finish Nikki & Garold were there to answer any questions we encountered along the way.
— Brent and Diane Schlenker

Last fall, Kipp Lester at Chisel Peak Construction, reached out to me with a project he was building for Brent and Diane Schlenker. They were building their retirement home in Fairmont on the Riverside Golf Course Estates. The Schlenkers were in the middle stages of building and needed the cabinetry process to be quick and efficient.

Kipp was well prepared and sent over plans to me straight away. The Schlenkers had a good idea of what they wanted and had pictures of ideas that they wanted to incorporate. I got to work and created a design that would combine their ideas into one cohesive design.

Once I sent the initial concept analysis over to Kipp, he sent the clients in right away to discuss the design and select options. Together we reviewed the initial CAD design and revised it to fit Brent and Diane's need for storage and simplicity.

Brent and Diane were very excited and impressed with the plan that I had created and we received their stamp of approval at that meeting.

Diane wanted to create a modern version of a country home. She loves the character that v-groove cabinets have and wanted a unique custom designed hood range that would draw attention. She had already picked out a perfect color palette. To add to the country vibe, we added a farmhouse "X" to the end panels in the island.

During this initial meeting we covered everything from color, to door style, mouldings, hardware and so much more. The Schlenkers only had to visit our showroom once! Did we mention, they were looking for experience and efficiency?

After the drywall was up in the new home, our engineering team headed out to Fairmont to do a final site measure and details got finalized.

We got this project into production straight away. Our lead time on a project this size averages at about 2-3 weeks from final drawing approval (sent after the final site measure) to beginning of installation.

Custom V-Groove Hood Range in Production

We are particularly proud of our production shop. A lot of planning went in to designing our facility and we have the ability to keep all manufacturing aspects of our cabinetry in house, ensuring quality and durability for our clients.

Although we share a lot about our side of the process, additional preparation and hard work goes into a new cabinetry project on the client end. The Schlenkers and their contractor Kipp, were easy to get a hold of and responded quickly when we asked for various details such as appliance specifications.

Our install team headed out to Fairmont to deliver and install the cabinetry. The installation period for a job this size averages 2-4 days. While we are focusing on the kitchen, we also provided cabinetry for  three bathroom vanities and the laundry room.

Kitchen cabinetry installation is almost completed

What a stunning space! From the initial meeting with the Schlenkers to the final reveal, this project took approximately 6 weeks to design, manufacture and install. We are so pleased with the outcome!

Take a look for yourself at the final product!
